BEHYND.™

Wearable safety pod · In development

Eyes in the back of your head.

BEHYND™ is a tiny, sleek AI camera we’re building for you to wear on your back. When the same person stays behind you for 60 seconds, 2 minutes or 5 minutes, it’s designed to give you a silent buzz. Turn a corner. If they turn too, it notices.

You're walking home.

Animated demo. BEHYND is in development.

The Turn Test

You turn. They turn. It knows.

Lots of people walk behind you. Almost none of them take the same turns you do. That's the difference BEHYND is built to look for.

  1. 1

    It watches behind you

The rear camera tracks who stays behind you and for how long. People who pass by don't count.

  2. 2

    You turn

Take a corner or cross the street. Your phone notes the change in direction.

  3. 3

    They turn too

If the same person makes the same turn, their follow score jumps. That's BEHYND's 0–100 measure of how sure it is that someone is following you, and it's how BEHYND tells a follower from someone who's just going your way.

Wear it your way

Snaps on. Faces back.

One small pod, six ways to wear it. Every mount slides onto the same rail, so switching takes seconds.

  • Tiny and sleek

Target size about 1.5 inches (38–42 mm) across, in a hard soft-touch matte body. The battery sets the final size.

  • Snap on and go

Designed to click on in a second. One tap in the app and it starts watching.

  • Discreet

Alerts are a silent buzz only you feel. The small light ring around the lens stays off unless you want it.

  • Rain-ready

Designed to be splash-proof, so a downpour doesn't stop it watching.

MagBack magnet

A two-piece magnet holds the pod through a shirt, hoodie or light jacket, on your upper back or collar. No clips, no holes. For thick winter coats, use the coat clip or coat loop.

Coat clip

A rigid spring clip for a coat collar, hood edge, backpack strap or belt. The winter pick: it grips thick coats where a magnet can't.

Coat loop

A small tab threads through the hanging loop inside most coat collars, so the pod sits flat between your shoulders. Made for winter, and very discreet.

Cap mount

Slots into a ball cap's back strap. Sits high, sees over crowds and stays clear of hair and hoods.

Backpack loop

Locks onto the top grab handle and faces straight back. Made for commuters and students.

Buddy bag charm

For kids, or anyone: a soft animal cover on a rigid bag clip that won't spin. No cords and no loose magnets.

BEHYND Buddy™ covers · for kids 10+

Same BEHYND. Way cuter.

Slip BEHYND into a soft silicone animal cover that kids actually want on their backpack. Same camera, same alerts, and kid mode keeps parents in the loop.

  • Kid mode in the app: alerts go to a parent's phone, and parents set the mode
  • Rigid bag clip only: no cords around the neck
  • No loose magnets, a sealed battery, and audio off
  • Plain covers too, in Midnight, Rose and Sand

Covers are sold separately. Kid mode needs a phone nearby, so it's for ages 10 and up.

Pick your Buddy

Fox

Quick, clever and notices everything.

Modes

Built to know the difference between a crowd and a creep.

Auto mode picks the right setting from how busy it is, the time of day and where you are. Or choose one yourself.

Busy Street

Alert after5:00

Downtown · events · transit

Only watches your walking lane and leans hard on the Turn Test, so the crowd heading your way doesn't set it off.

Everyday

Alert after2:00

Campus · neighborhoods · the walk to school

Times anyone within about 50 feet (15 m) behind you, plus the Turn Test.

Quiet / Late Night

Alert after1:00

Empty streets · after dark · parking lots

Watches further back and alerts after just one minute. Infrared night vision on.

Privacy promise

Watches your back. Not everyone else.

AI on your own devices

People are spotted on the pod and matched in the app on your phone. Nothing goes to the cloud unless there's an alert or you share it.

No face recognition

BEHYND never identifies anyone by their face. People get anonymous IDs that are deleted after your walk.

Audio off by default

BEHYND records what's behind you, not what you're saying.

Our story

Why I'm building BEHYND

BEHYND started with news stories I couldn’t stop thinking about: people who were followed, sometimes for blocks, sometimes up the stairs to their own front door, and then attacked and killed. In case after case, the person following them was right there, and they didn’t know until it was too late.

I kept asking one question: what if they’d known a minute sooner? BEHYND is designed to give you that minute. A quiet buzz says someone has stayed behind you too long, or turned every time you turned, so you have time to cross the street, step into a shop or call someone.

It’s for anyone heading out alone: walking home, out for a run, on the way to work or to school. And for the people waiting for the “home safe” text.

FAQ

Questions

What is BEHYND?

A small camera pod we’re developing, about 1.5 inches (38–42 mm) across, that you wear facing backward. It’s designed to watch who's behind you and buzz when the same person stays there too long. It pairs with an app on your phone.

Does it work yet?

Not as a finished product. The follow-detection software runs in an early phone prototype that's about to go out on real street tests, and the pod itself is being designed with manufacturers. We’ll share real test footage as we go. See where we are.

How does it tell a follower from someone walking my way?

It looks at how long the same person has stayed behind you and whether they take the same turns you do (the Turn Test). Each mode tunes both, so busy sidewalks don't flood you with alerts.

What happens when it alerts?

The pod will buzz twice and your phone will show how long the person has been behind you, with two big buttons: I'm OK and Share Live, which sends your live location to your trusted contacts.

Do I need my phone with me?

Yes. BEHYND is designed to work with a free app on your phone (iPhone or Android), which can stay in your pocket or bag. The pod does the watching and the app does the thinking. Spotting a follower and the buzz work with no signal; sharing your location with your contacts needs a connection.

Does it record people?

It will record video on the pod and save the clip from just before an alert, so you have a record. Like any video, a clip can show faces, but BEHYND never runs face recognition. Clips stay on your own devices unless you share them or an alert you don't answer is sent to your contacts. Audio is off by default. People are tracked with anonymous IDs that are deleted after your walk.

Will people notice I'm wearing it?

Not easily. It's designed to be about 1.5 inches (38–42 mm) across and to sit flat on your back, cap or bag. Alerts are a silent buzz only you feel, and the small light ring around the lens stays off unless you turn it on.

Will it stay on a winter coat?

Yes, with the coat clip or coat loop. The MagBack magnet is made for shirts, hoodies and light jackets, because thick padding weakens any magnet. Every mount slides onto the same rail, so you can switch in seconds. BEHYND is planned to come with one mount of your choice, and extra mounts will be sold separately.

Does it work in the rain?

That's the plan. BEHYND is being designed to be splash-proof, so rain won't stop it. We'll publish the exact rating once testing is done.

Will it keep me safe?

BEHYND can't stop anyone. It gives you an early warning and a record, so you have time to decide what to do: cross the street, step into a shop, call someone. It's built to notice someone who stays behind you over time, so it can't warn you about a sudden rush from behind.

Can my kid use BEHYND?

Yes, from age 10. It's the same camera: turn on kid mode in the app, and alerts also go to a parent's phone, with parents choosing the mode. For kids, BEHYND goes in a Buddy cover on a rigid bag clip only: no cords, no loose magnets, a sealed battery and audio off. Kid mode needs a phone nearby.

Does it come in colors?

BEHYND itself is a discreet dark graphite, so it's hard to notice. For color, slip on a cover: plain Midnight, Rose or Sand, or a Buddy animal. Covers are optional and sold separately.

How much will it cost?

BEHYND is planned at $129, the same camera for adults and kids. BEHYND Buddy animal covers and plain color covers will be sold separately. Core alerts and local recording are free forever. The optional Circle plan ($6.99 a month or $59 a year) adds three things: cloud backup for your clips; Walk Me Home, where a trusted contact can follow your walk live until you're home; and the Evidence Vault, time-stamped proof that your clips haven't been changed. Sharing your live location with your contacts in an emergency is free.

What's the $1 reservation?

Reservations open soon, and everyone on the list gets an email when they do. Once you've joined and confirmed your email, you'll reserve for $1 from your place-in-line page. It holds your spot in the first production batch and gets you $30 off at launch, so BEHYND is $99. It doesn't combine with the $99 early-bird referral reward: either way, your price is $99. Changed your mind? Email us any time before launch and we’ll refund it.

When can I get one?

BEHYND is in development. We'll launch on Kickstarter once the waitlist is big enough, and people on the list hear first. We're not promising a date yet.

How do referrals work?

After you confirm your email you get a personal link. Every friend who joins with it and confirms their email counts as a referral and moves you up. If two people have the same number of referrals, whoever joined first is ahead. Full reward rules.

Is BEHYND patented?

Patent pending. We've filed a US patent application covering how BEHYND tells when someone is following you, including the Turn Test.
